The Copa Libertadores or CONMEBOL Libertadores is the premier South American club football tournament, established in 1960. Since 2007, the qualification system is as follows: the previous year's winner, five teams each from Argentina and Brazil, and three teams each from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela qualify for the championship. The tournament has been held since 1960, and the most successful teams are Independiente (7 titles), Boca Juniors (6 titles), and Peñarol (5 titles). The top scorer in the tournament's history is Ecuadorian Alberto Spencer, with 54 goals.
