This summer, both Bayern and Borussia were very active in the transfer market, announcing several big signings. After these German giants' purchases, Eurofootball.com presents to you the 15 biggest Bundesliga transfers of all time.
15. Mario Gotze - Borussia (26 million euros) Acquired in the 2016-2017 season from Bayern
This list starts with the recent transfer in which Borussia brought back Gotze to their ranks. In three years with Bayern, Gotze struggled to secure a solid starting position in the Bavarian team, and in the last season, he was also plagued by injuries.
The midfielder had his worst season in the Bundesliga since his debut in the 2009-2010 season, only playing 41 minutes on the field. In 14 matches last year, Gotze scored three goals and provided four assists in the German championship.
14. Breel Embolo - Schalke (27 million euros) Acquired in the 2016-2017 season from Basel
One of the three non-Borussia and Bayern signings, and the only representative of Schalke in the Bundesliga, Embolo also moved this summer. The 19-year-old forward was sought after by several European giants and is considered one of the most talented young players of his generation.
Before moving to Germany, Embolo spent his entire career at Basel. In the last two seasons in the Swiss league, he showed identical statistics - 10 goals and 7 assists.
13. Henrikh Mkhitaryan - Borussia (27.5 million euros) Acquired in the 2013-2014 season from Shakhtar
Three years ago, after an excellent season in Ukraine (25 goals and 10 assists), Mkhitaryan arrived at Borussia and certainly paid off for the team. The attacking midfielder scored 41 goals and provided 49 assists in 140 games for the Dortmund team, with his standout performance in the last season of the Bundesliga. He scored 11 goals and provided 20 assists, outperforming all other players in the league in this category.
It is not surprising that this summer Mkhitaryan attracted attention from other teams, and the player decided to continue his career in England. For a sum of 42 million euros, the midfielder moved to Manchester United.
