Today, nine matches of the French football championship were played, in which quite a few surprises were recorded.
The biggest surprise was the defeat of "Monaco", who is currently in second place and with one foot in the UEFA Champions League final, losing to "Nantes" team 0-1. After this defeat, "Monaco" is now 4 points behind "Lyon", who are in first place, as they easily beat "Rennes" 3-0. Considering that there are only 5 matches left until the end of the championship, this is already a significant advantage.
The fans of "Monaco" are worried by the fact that their favorite club not only can't keep up with the train of "Lyon", but also allows the capital's team "P.S.G." to get closer. If the Paris club manages to beat "Marseille" tomorrow, it will rise to the 2nd position, pushing "Monaco" out of it.
The principled duel took place today at Stade Abbé-Deschamps stadium, where the 5th-placed "Auxerre" team met the "Sochaux" players one step above them. The hosts, although struggling, managed to beat the French League Cup holders with a score of 2-1, moving up to the 4th position and still having theoretical hopes to fight for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season.
After being eliminated from the UEFA Cup quarterfinals and a few unsuccessful matches in the league, the "Bordeaux" players finally seem to have recovered, defeating "Bastia" today 0-2 and climbing up three positions - from 11th to 8th. After this leap, "Bordeaux" seems to have regained some hope to fight for a place in Europe.
The "Nice", "Lille" and "Lens" teams, who succumbed to the teams fighting for survival at the bottom of the league table, also helped the "Bordeaux" players to make such a leap by winning very important points.
