5th round: Draw recorded in the Madrid derby © EuroFootball.com

On Sunday in Spain, the 5th round of "La Liga" matches took place. One of the most anticipated games - the Madrid derby between "Real" and "Atletico" - ended in a 1-1 draw.

Although "Atletico" has not won at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium since 1999, this year they once again challenged their more titled opponents: they took the lead after a goal from former "Valencia" player Mista at the start of the match, when the Spaniard found himself one on one with the goal after an excellent pass from Argentine national team forward Maxi Rodriguez. However, Raul, who has once again found his scoring touch, managed to equalize the score after a superb pass from Guti from the left before halftime.

Despite Real gynėjas Sergio Ramos being sent off the field for a second yellow card early in the second half, "Atletico" failed to secure the long-awaited victory.

Important victories at the end of the matches were achieved by La Coruna's "Deportivo" and Huelva's "Recreativo" teams, scoring two goals each in the last ten minutes and celebrating victories with identical 2-0 scores against "Real Sociedad" and Seville's "Betis" respectively.

"Real Sociedad", along with a 1-1 draw with "Racing Santander" and a loss to Bilbao's "Athletic" on Saturday, are the only teams this year that have not tasted victory.

Valencia's "Levante" failed to maintain a two-goal lead in the second half as they conceded two goals and settled for a draw after leading 0-2 thanks to goals from Diego Camacho and Olivier Kapo.

Continuing their less than successful run in the UEFA Cup tournament, Vigo's "Celta" played to a 1-1 draw away against "Racing Santander".

The match in Barcelona between "Espanyol" and Pamplona's "Osasuna" ended goalless.

Meanwhile, the fourth victory was secured by "Sevilla", temporarily occupying the second place in the table after defeating Madrid's "Getafe" 1-0 at home.

The final round of matches took place in Valencia, where the local "Valencia" crushed "Gimnastic" from Tarragona 4-0 and climbed to the top of the table.
