On Saturday, five matches of the 7th round of the French "Ligue 1" championship were played. The remaining five matches will be played on Sunday evening.
The central match of the round took place in Bordeaux, where the local "Bordeaux" team, currently in 5th place in the standings, hosted the defending champions and current leaders "Lyon". The first goal came in the 6th minute after a goal by Vladimir Smicer from "Bordeaux", but in the 65th minute Sylvain Wiltord managed to equalize the score, so the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
One of the leaders took advantage of the draw, the astonishing newcomer "Le Mans", who defeated the "Sochaux" team 2-1 at home and temporarily rose to 2nd place with 14 points.
The UEFA Champions League competing "Lille" club secured a crushing victory on Saturday, beating Edgaras Jankauskas' former team "Nice" 4-0 at home. "Lille" took the lead in the 5th minute, but the score remained 1-0 until the 76th minute. It was then that "Lille" scored their second goal, and then scored two more goals in the next 6 minutes.
