A. Čeferinas: People Receiving a Salary of a Thousand Euros Should Not Cry, But Clubs © JumpStory

UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin spoke about the future format of the Champions League and complaints from famous coaches. The Slovenian told "La Gazzetta dello Sport" that everything is well planned and that future matches will delight viewers in a couple of years. "Today, even without drawing lots, it is possible to predict which teams will enter the knockout stages. In the future, big clubs will compete against each other much more often, weaker teams will have better chances to qualify, and the battles in the groups will continue until the very last moment. The 2024 tournament is the future," clarified A. Čeferin. Regarding reducing the number of matches and complaints from coaches J. Klopp and J. Guardiola, the official had a firm opinion. "Local leagues should have matches with 18 teams, but their presidents do not agree to change the system. Everyone wants more matches in cup tournaments but nobody wants to sacrifice anything. Clubs urged to play ten matches in the future stage of the Champions League groups, now there will be eight matches, which is the right number. It is always easy to criticize UEFA and FIFA, but one thing is simple - the less you play, the less money you receive. If someone should complain, it should be the factory workers who earn a thousand euros per month," said A. Čeferin.
