After finishing in ninth place in the German "Bundesliga" after a poor last season, the club announced on Wednesday that it acquired Swedish player Alexander Farnerud, who represented a French team until now.
The talented Swedish midfielder was one of the leaders of "Strasbourg," a team struggling in "Ligue 1" this season, but decided to leave the team after they were relegated to the second French football division. The player's contract with the Strasbourg club still had a year left.
Reportedly, Stuttgart paid 2.5 million euros for the 22-year-old player. Farnerud is expected to be officially presented to the fans of "Stuttgart" in the coming days. The player signed a four-year contract with the club.
"We have agreed on all the terms of the transfer with both the player and his former club, so I hope that Farnerud will be officially introduced to the new team's fans in the coming days," said the player's agent Claes Elefalk.
"Alexander can play as an attacking midfielder or as a forward. These are the positions where he feels most comfortable and can cause a lot of problems for the opposing defenders."
It is worth mentioning that Alexander's older brother, Swedish national team defender Pontus Farnerud, also hinted at his intentions to leave the relegated "Strasbourg" team for "Ligue 2."
