According to Sir Alex Ferguson, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich would act foolishly if he were to fire Jose Mourinho, naming the Portuguese as one of the best coaches in football history.
The Premier League champions are showing very poor form, and on Saturday they lost 0-1 to Bournemouth. Having only earned four points in the last six games, Chelsea now sits in fourteenth place. As the club continues to show poor results, talks of Mourinho's dismissal are increasing, but Manchester United legend believes Abramovich should keep him in the coaching position.
"Abramovich has fired many coaches in the past 10 years, and I believe he has learned from it. He should trust and give Jose the opportunity to change the results," Ferguson said in an interview with The Mirror.
"There is no point in firing one of the best coaches of all time. He has won the Champions League twice, country titles in every league he worked in, and many important trophies. It would be foolish to dismiss him. It would be bad leadership for the team. It certainly would not be a good example of leadership in the club," - Ferguson said.
The 73-year-old Scot emphasized that this is Mourinho's first unsuccessful season in his career and defended the Portuguese, saying he will improve the current situation.
"I have watched Jose and talked with him a few times. For the first time in his career, he is facing poor results. Looking at his entire career, you would see only an upward trend, so now he is facing bad press and an unfavorable situation for the first time, but there are positive signs that he can restore the game to its former level, I even saw them in Saturday's match," - Ferguson said.
"Jose, like other good leaders, will find a solution soon. And when he finds that solution, I believe everything will return to normal. Currently, everything looks bad, but I know this man and the work he has done in football, so such a situation cannot last long," - Ferguson concluded his conversation about Mourinho.
Throughout his career, Sir Alex Ferguson triumphed in the Premier League a total of thirteen times.
