Antoine Griezmann is delighted with the decision to stay in the ranks of Madrid's Atletico.
The 27-year-old forward was linked to a move to Barcelona at the beginning of the summer. Griezmann even made a documentary film in which he announced his final decision about his future - he rejected Barcelona's offer and signed a new contract with Atletico.
"When love is shown at home, you don't need to go elsewhere," said the Frenchman. "Atletico did everything they could for me, including renewing the squad and attracting strong players.
"I feel like I am a key piece of the puzzle at this club. That's what convinced me to stay here. It's not easy to say 'no' to Barcelona, but Atletico is my home and I want to achieve the highest goals here," added Griezmann.
Asked about the Ballon d'Or elections, the Frenchman replied: "As always, Messi and Ronaldo are favorites. I feel that I have done enough this season to also be among the contenders."
