One of the most experienced Spanish national team defenders, Andres Iniesta, claims that their very poor performance in the 2014 World Cup motivates the team to play better than ever in the European Championship.
The World Cup held in Brazil two years ago ended very unsuccessfully for the then strongest team on the planet - they were eliminated after the group stage. The Spaniards are also defending their title in this European Championship and their group is not easy - they are competing for a spot in the next stage against the national teams of Croatia, Turkey, and the Czech Republic.
"Our poor performance in the last World Cup motivates us to focus more than ever on this European Championship," said A. Iniesta. "We came here as champions, so we want to go as far as possible."
"We have started tournaments with losses before, but in the end stage we were able to finish with a trophy. There have been times when we started the journey triumphantly, but still couldn't win the title. Only at the end of the tournament could we say how important the first matches were," added the captain of "Barcelona."
Spain will start their journey in the European Championship taking place in France today. At 16:00, Vicente Del Bosque's players will face the Czech national team.
