“Manchester United“ belonging Adnan Januzaj could switch from the Belgium national team to Kosovo, which recently became a member of UEFA.
It was announced today that Kosovo has become the 55th member of UEFA, which means they will be able to participate in UEFA-organized tournaments and seek FIFA membership. According to reports, they will submit their application to become a FIFA member next week.
After this decision, there have been reports that Adnan Januzaj, who belongs to “Manchester United“, may decide to represent the Kosovo national team. In 2014, he chose to represent Belgium, but not finding regular opportunities in the “United“ team, recently he has not been called up to play for the Belgian national team.
Januzaj could represent the Kosovo national team due to his family heritage, and according to FIFA regulations, he can switch the national team he represents because at the time he decided to play for the Belgium national team, Kosovo was not yet recognized by either UEFA or FIFA organizations. Belgium national team coach Marc Wilmots also mentioned that the 21-year-old player could decide to represent Kosovo.
“Two years ago I told him to choose with his heart and he chose us. If he now changes his mind and decides that he is better off elsewhere, I will take that into account. In that case, I couldn't change anything,” Wilmots said.
Throughout his career, Januzaj wore the Belgium national team jersey six times. The last time he played for that team was back in November 2014.
