On Thursday, Adnan Januzaj had a rare opportunity to make it into the starting lineup of "Borussia," but the footballer failed to make a significant impact during the whole match, as the German team unexpectedly lost 0:1 to the "PAOK" club at home.
Arriving on loan from "Manchester United," the player rarely gets a chance in the German team, and he was included in the starting lineup for the first time since the match on October 1 with the same "PAOK" team in Greece. After the team's coach, Thomas Tuchel, found out that in the next group match "Krasnodar" easily leads the opponents, and "Borussia" no longer has chances to take first place, he decided to give Marco Reus and Shinji Kagawa a rest, so Januzaj got a rare opportunity to be on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.
The 20-year-old was not very noticeable or active in attack on the field, and it was only in the second half that Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Julian Weigl appeared much more active and managed to make more dangerous passes than the defender who played the whole match. Just about every seventh pass of the Belgian was made forward, and on top of that, the player often committed fouls and was punished with a yellow card. It was certainly not the performance after which he could expect more opportunities in the "Borussia" team.
Last month, Louis van Gaal admitted that he would have preferred to send Januzaj to a weaker team in the "Premier League" rather than to one of the European giants - Borussia Dortmund - where the competition is much greater.
During this season, Januzaj appeared in eleven matches in the German league, but he did not score any goals and only made two assists.
