Artemas Kovbasa became the third Ukrainian to extend his contract with Marijampolė's "Sūduva" for another season. Previously, this was done by Maksym Pyrohov and Artem Fedorov.
The 26-year-old attacking right-back A. Kovbasa arrived at "Sūduva" in the summer of this year, but due to a serious injury, he only managed to play 6 matches in the A league. However, during those matches, the footballer scored 2 goals.
The first goal the legionnaire scored during his debut match in Šiauliai, and later with an accurate shot in referee's added time, he secured a 3:2 victory in the match against "Riteriai" in Vilnius.
"I am glad that I appeared in Lithuania and specifically in Marijampolė, where support for Ukraine is very strong and they help us. We are very grateful for that," the player said. "The half-year I spent at 'Sūduva' was difficult. On one hand, I scored in my debut match, we had an important 3-game winning streak, to which I also contributed with one winning goal. On the other hand, I suffered a serious injury and had to start the rehabilitation process. I hope to be ready to play again as soon as possible. I am thankful to the club's president and the team's coach for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to continue playing at 'Sūduva'. I hope we can strengthen the team and compete for higher positions."
A. Kovbasa joined the Marijampolė team from Croatia's "Karlovac 1919" team. The former youth player of Kyiv's "Dynamo" has previously represented his hometown clubs of Kyiv "Obolon-Brovar", Odesa "Chornomorets", and Donetsk "Olimpik" as well as Germany's "Lorch".
"Sūduva" will start preparations for the new season in mid-January, and fans of the team can already purchase club memberships and season tickets for the year 2024.
