A Look at the Participants of the European WU19 Championship: England © lff.lt

Soon the European U19 girls' championship will start in Lithuania, so LFF.lt invites you to get to know the future tournament participants up close.

First up is the team - England.

Referred to as the homeland of football, England is currently experiencing a significant rise in women's football - the women's national team became European champions and also performed successfully in the last World Cup.

This growth is also reflected in girls' football - after a year-long break, the English girls are back in the final stage of the championship and will strive to advance among the four strongest teams.

The best achievement of the English team was winning the title of champions in this age group in 2009, when they triumphed in a tournament held in Belarus. In 2013 in Wales, they reached the final but lost, and since then, they have not managed to overcome the group stage in five attempts.

Most of the players in this team belong to the top women's league clubs in England, such as London's "Chelsea" or "Manchester United".

The team is coached by a young specialist, John Griffiths. He has been working in the English football system for 17 years, and specifically took over the reins of the U19 girls' team in 2020, having previously worked in men's clubs in the lower leagues in England.

England's team schedule:

July 14 (Sunday), 17.00. Lithuania - England (Kaunas Darius and Girenas Stadium);

July 17 (Wednesday), 14.00. Serbia - England (Marijampolė Stadium);

July 20 (Saturday), 18.00. England - France (Jonava Stadium);

Second qualifying stage (Group A3, played in Portugal). 2:0 against Switzerland, 1:0 against Portugal, and 4:1 win against Italy.

Top scorer - Poppy Pritchard (4 goals).

Best achievement - champions (2009).

England reached the final three more times, but since the last time in 2013, they have not once advanced beyond the group stage.

Remember that the championship will take place in Kaunas, Marijampolė, and Jonava from July 14-27.
