Alvaro Morata, who did not find success in the ranks of London's "Chelsea" during the second half of last season, spent the season on loan with Madrid's "Atletico", and from 2020 the Spanish club will acquire all the rights to the striker.
The 26-year-old Spaniard openly expressed his desire not to return to London, where he played from 2017, but failed to become a key figure in the team.
Speaking to EFE, A. Morata said that returning to the "Atletico" team, where he played in the youth academy, is the best thing that could have happened to him.
"Returning to 'Atletico' is the best thing that could have happened to me. Winning a title with this team would mean a lot to me. Much more than any other trophy I have won, because everything would be just different," A. Morata said.
This summer, "Atletico" lost several key players, and the biggest loss was Antoine Griezmann's move to "Barcelona".
According to A. Morata, the Frenchman is one of the best players who have played in "Atletico" in recent years.
"Important players who were also great personalities have left the team. I wish they would still be here, but we all have different career plans.
Griezmann is a top-class player, I don't even need to explain it to you. He is one of the best players who have played in 'Atletico' recently," praised A. Morata his former teammate.
