It is reported that Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo turned down the opportunity to join Barcelona in January for the remainder of the season.
According to Sport, the player was offered a six-month loan agreement after a meeting with Barcelona's sports director Robert Fernandez, but the player decided to stay in his current team, hoping to get more playing time there.
The 30-year-old played only nine matches under coach Nuno this season, and did not even make it into the squad for the last seven games.
The striker has already proven that he can be productive in La Liga and representing Sevilla, Almeria, and Valencia, he has scored 107 goals in the Spanish league.
Sport reports that Barcelona is looking for a striker who could join the team cheaply and at least until next summer, when the team could dedicate more time and resources to acquiring the desired player, replacing Pedro who left at the start of this season. Negredo's experience and skill in finishing attacks were the main factors why Barcelona wanted to sign the player on loan.
However, the Spaniard decided to try to impress Valencia's new coach Gary Neville. In his first English game under Valencia's helm, Negredo came off the bench and played 38 minutes. Despite that, Valencia lost 0-2 to Lyon at home and was eliminated from the Champions League.
