In the football federation of the Tauragė region (TAFF) - perhaps awaited, but somewhat unexpected changes. Arūnas Pukelis, a businessman, replaced Sigitas Jukna, who had led the federation for 15 years, by unanimous decision of all federation members at an extraordinary meeting held in early November. It is A. Pukelis who is known in certain circles as a "thug" and has conflicts with Enrikas, the son of Henrikas Daktaras, who is currently serving a prison sentence. It is said that A. Pukelis is a criminal "authority." It is said that for over fifteen years football in Tauragė was not particularly cultivated and certain cardinal measures were needed to change the situation. The city had its own team in the Lithuanian A League - Tauragė "Taura", but due to financial difficulties it ended up in the first league and currently holds only 17th place. Although A. Pukelis was asked to lead the regional football federation for many years, he agreed to do so only this year. Asked what, in his opinion, Tauragė football lacks the most today, A. Pukelis said that proper dialogue between the "Taura" team, the local municipality, and the leaders of the Tauragė regional football federation. The new president argued that football is not just a game - it is a social phenomenon that has a significant impact on the life of the entire community, according to kurjeris.lt. "A great example is Germany. There it is a matter of honor for every even small town community to have a good football team. This creates excellent infrastructure, many youth football groups are formed near clubs, and every match becomes a real celebration for all community members. I also want fair relations with our district government. I am a perfectionist, but I can think rationally and I believe that my proposals should interest both the council and the entire football community," A. Pukelis told kurjeris.lt.
