Despite the fact that the Dutch national team failed to qualify for the second consecutive important tournament, Arjen Robben, who announced the end of his career in it, believes that the future is still bright.
Playing his last match with the "Oranje" jersey, the Bayern Munich star played against Sweden. There he scored a double and led the team to victory with a score of 2-0, but it was not enough to climb to the second place in Group A of the World Cup qualifiers.
The Dutch also did not perform well in last year's European Championships in France.
"Kids in school playing soccer give everything for the victory... If it doesn't work out, it becomes a huge disappointment. Then it is normal to mourn, but better times will come," - said Robben.
Asked how he felt when fans chanted his name at the Amsterdam ArenA stadium, the veteran replied: "It was amazing. I am very grateful. I played here for 14 years."
"I have witnessed many wonderful things. If Dutch fans are so delighted with it, I can only be thankful to them."
Defender Daryl Janmaat also agreed with Robben's thoughts on the future of Dutch football. According to him, the national team has enough good players, and now it is just going through a tough period.
