German national team striker Andre Schurrle insists that the Irish did not deserve to win in the 2016 European Championship qualifying match.
The Germans controlled the ball 67 percent of the playing time and completed 613 accurate passes, while their opponents only managed 179.
However, in the meeting in Dublin, the only goal was scored in the 70th minute by substitute "Southampton" player Shane Long. Germany suffered their second consecutive defeat and has not secured a spot in the tournament in France this summer.
"I don't think the victory was deserved," Schurrle told Goal.com. "We had many opportunities, but we couldn't score. Nevertheless, it must be acknowledged that Ireland played with great passion and gave their all."
"It's tough because, in my opinion, we had many chances and Ireland played exactly the way they wanted - with nine players retreating into their own half and one waiting for long passes. One such pass broke through and they won."
The player representing "Wolfsburg" also dismissed claims that the Germans underestimated their opponents.
