Legendary "Milan" sniper Andrej Ševčenko spared no praise for his former teammate Gennaro Gattuso, who managed to revive the team in his new role as a coach.
Despite acquiring numerous talented newcomers in the summer, "rossoneri" played poorly, and a positive finish to the season seemed out of reach.
However, strategist Vincenzo Montella was then dismissed and replaced by Gattuso, who has now achieved a streak of 13 consecutive unbeaten matches.
"Rino (Gattuso - ed. note) changed the face of "Milan"," Ševčenko told "Gazzetta dello Sport".
"He brought back their identity and team spirit. He wants his players to be competitive and aggressive - he was exactly that kind of player, so I'm not surprised."
"He is a man who will not give up an inch. Rino is not afraid of anything. He got his chance and is now making the most of it."
"I hope that next season he will lead "Milan" to the Champions League, even if a derby between Kiev's "Dynamo" and "Milan" would not be easy for me."
Currently, "rossoneri" are in seventh place in the Italian championship. They are seven points away from fourth place, which guarantees a spot in the Champions League.
