A Shadow of Suspicion Over a Friendly A League Club Match © lff.lt

On February 13 of this year, the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency received a report from its partners in Denmark – the country's gambling oversight authority – about a friendly football match that took place in Cyprus between "Lyngby BK" (Denmark) and "FK Banga Gargždai".

"On the same day, we contacted the global sports event monitoring agency "Sportradar" and requested an assessment of the information received. Shortly thereafter, we received an evaluation from "Sportradar" that there is a high likelihood that the result of the match between "Lyngby BK" and "FK Banga Gargždai", which took place on February 10 (the match ended with a victory for the Danish team 3:2), was manipulated.

The suspicions of possible manipulation were raised by large bets placed in gambling companies that at least 5 goals would be scored in this match (for this, bets of over 240,000 euros were made) and the actions of the match referee (at the very end of the match, with the score 2:1 in favor of "Lyngby BK", two penalties were awarded).

We requested the Lithuanian Football Federation to provide all available information about this situation, actions taken and planned, investigations, and decisions. We also contacted the Gambling Oversight Service at the Ministry of Finance, and the betting companies "7Bet" and "Topsport" and requested to check if suspicious bets had been placed on the outcome of this match. The Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency carries out the functions of a coordinator in the fight against the manipulation of sports competitions,” informs the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency.
