A. Shearer: W. Rooney should end his career in the national team

Legendary "Newcastle United" striker Alan Shearer believes that 30-year-old "Manchester United" captain Wayne Rooney should end his career in the England national team.

Despite receiving criticism, W. Rooney was included in the England national team squad for the 2018 World Cup qualification matches. A. Shearer doesn't think that the attacking midfielder no longer meets the national team level, but he is convinced that at his age W. Rooney cannot perform equally well in both the national team and the club.

"The current 'Man Utd' squad is very powerful, so Rooney always has to be at the highest level if he wants to be in the starting XI," said A. Shearer.

"It's time for Wayne to be selfish and make a favorable decision for himself. And yes, regretfully, I want to say that he should retire from the England national team.

I'm not saying that he doesn't meet the national team level anymore, but he is already 30 years old and playing at the same level in both the club and the national team is very difficult.

Rooney should not feel ashamed of this decision. He has given a lot to English football and played even during tough times when he was plagued by various injuries," added the legend of the England national team.
