London's "Arsenal" team strategist Arsene Wenger is defending recently transferred Danny Welbeck to the team, despite the missed opportunities in Tuesday's match against "Borussia Dortmund.
The English national team member had several chances to score, but failed to defeat the opponents' goalkeeper. The Germans, on the other hand, sent the ball into the "Gunner's" goal net twice. "Borussia" players Ciro Immobile and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stood out in the match.
Welbeck did not receive separate criticism from the "Arsenal" coach. Wenger only praised his work on the field.
"He was dangerous, but in the second half of the match he got tired," the strategist told Sky Sports. "He lacked sharpness to finish attacks, but he looked lively and played the whole game well. He needs to score a goal to relieve the pressure."
Wenger also stated that, although the Dortmund team deserved to win, his team created enough opportunities.
"I think we didn't play at the right level today," the Frenchman added. "They deserved the win. However, I still believe we were a bit unlucky because we missed a goal with 10 seconds left in the first half. It was hard to accept."
"Despite a very average performance, we had plenty of chances. It's the paradox of the evening. We could have taken the lead in the match. However, we also gave them a lot of opportunities to score."
