29-year-old Mesut Ozil has decided to tie his future with London's Arsenal club - the German player yesterday put his signature on a long-term contract with the Gunners.
This season has not been the most successful for both M. Ozil and the Arsenal team. There were rumors that the midfielder would follow Alex Sanchez's example and leave Arsenal, but he remained loyal to the North London team.
Arsene Wenger did not hide his joy about Ozil's decision, but emphasized that now more leader qualities are expected from the footballer, which could lead the team forward.
"Ozil has decided to commit to this club, which is currently not in the best situation in terms of chances to qualify for next year's Champions League," Wenger emphasized.
"What I expect from him is to lead the team to success. Many said that Ozil would not sign a new contract with us, but he did and that is good news for us," added the coach.
Arsenal with M. Ozil in the lead, who has scored four goals and made seven assists this season in the Premier League, currently occupies the seventh position and is 8 points behind the fourth place.
