Arsene Wenger revealed a secret that during his tenure at London's Arsenal in 2003, they failed to acquire the then Sporting Lisbon defender Cristiano Ronaldo.
At that time, Ronaldo moved to Manchester United for just over 15 million euros and became a superstar at the club. Ronaldo won the best player award in the world in 2008 and 2013.
Also, in the period from 2006 to 2009, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles with the "Red Devils" and once won the UEFA Champions League, while Arsenal could not celebrate any trophies. Wenger admits that he regrets not acting differently in 2003.
"The thing I regret most - I was very close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo," said the Frenchman.
"Especially since not only did I not get him, but he also went to Manchester United. It is, of course, painful even today."
Wenger also added that the player he would most like to coach is Didier Drogba. The strategist mentioned two reasons: he missed out on him when Drogba was at Le Mans and if the African had represented the Gunners, he would not have scored so many goals against them.
