Arsene Wenger revealed that London's Arsenal refused to exchange even for the positions of the manager of Madrid's Real and the head coach of the English national team.
The Frenchman is already preparing for a new challenge, as after 22 years spent at the helm of the Gunners team, he decided to give up his place to another specialist.
The 68-year-old coach does not hide his desire to stay in football, but the further twists of his career are still unclear.
“When we built the stadium, the banks asked me to commit for five years. The first time (when Real contacted me - ed. note.) was during that five-year period and I thought, no, I can't do that, it would betray my club,” Wenger told beIN Sports.
“You know, I think I turned down Real Madrid offers two or three times. These are one of the teams that I loved as a child. I just felt that it was a very sensitive period for the Arsenal team.”
“I always felt tempted by the idea of going to Real Madrid, because they offered me the opportunity to take over the control of the whole club.”
“In the end, I said 'no' twice. I turned down so many offers from clubs, believe me. In the end, I was happy where I worked.”
Wenger was not only chased by clubs, but also by the English national team.
“I turned down their offer two or three times. At that time, my daily work was important to me,” added the Frenchman.
“Many times I said that the English national team should be coached by an Englishman. It is a big football country, they have many good coaches and I thought it was wrong for me to do it.”
