Kylian Mbappe's name and surname are one of the most declined in the press recently. The teenager became a true European football star this season and is being tempted by almost every major European club. Arsenal strategist Arsene Wenger revealed that last season Mbappe was close to moving to England.
The 18-year-old caught the attention when he scored 24 goals in 39 matches this season, and not only that, he also received a call-up to the French national team. The attention he started receiving was when in March 2016, he broke Thierry Henry's record by becoming the youngest player in the club's history to score a goal. Since then, Wenger has been trying to lure the talented Frenchman to the Emirates Stadium.
"The player could confirm that I visited his house last year and tried to attract him to Arsenal. Since it was the end of his contract, I thought it was possible, but Monaco managed to keep him, although the decision could have gone our way," Wenger said.
"I completely understand him, that's where he learned, so he decided to stay in France," continued the Arsenal manager. Wenger also mentioned that they may lack financial resources due to Mbappe's current price in the market, but they do not withdraw from the competition for the Frenchman that easily.
"Can Arsenal get him? I don't know, it depends on him. We all know that he will soon decide his future: Real Madrid? Maybe. Barcelona? Maybe. Arsenal? Manchester? He can go wherever he wants. I don't know his desires, but maybe it would be best for him to stay for another year in the Monaco team," admitted Wenger.
