London's Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger was criticized by the club's second largest shareholder, Alisher Usmanov, earlier this week. The businessman from Uzbekistan said that the Frenchman should admit his mistakes and strengthen every position during the transfer window.
The investor, who owns 30 percent of the capital club's shares, also expressed his astonishment that his word in the club still doesn't mean anything. Usmanov added that Arsenal has a lot of potential, but the same mistakes are constantly repeated.
Meanwhile, the "gunners" strategist, who had previously said that he would acquire new players in January, doubted the professionalism of one of the club's owners.
"In those 18 years that I've been here, I've proven more than once that I can accept criticism," said Wenger.
"Everyone can have their opinion. We need to show solidarity. When we have something to say to each other, it should be expressed face to face. There's no need to get into the newspapers."
The defeat on Saturday by Manchester United with a score of 2-1 resulted in the capital team dropping to eighth place in the Premier League and trailing behind leading Chelsea by 15 points.
Arsenal started the country's championship in the worst way in the last 32 years. In the same stage of last season, Arsene Wenger's players had accumulated 11 more points.
