Newcastle's football club defender Jonas Gutierrez, who managed to overcome cancer for a while, found out by phone that he was no longer needed in the team. And at first, the news was not even addressed to him, but also to a teammate who was also being released. This was reported by ESPN.
The dismissal story shocked England: club manager John Carver first called team veteran Ryan Taylor on his mobile phone, telling him that Newcastle no longer promised to make contracts with him and he could look for a new club.
After finding out that the latter player was next to J. Gutierrez, he asked to pass him the mobile phone and said goodbye to him.
"I assumed that the team would not want to extend the contract with me. But the essence is not in that — everyone knows that a footballer's career is very short. I have seen a lot in my life and I wanted the club leaders to personally call me and inform me of this news. Or at least contact my agent," disappointed Gutierrez said.
In the last match of this season's Premier League, Newcastle defender 31-year-old Argentine J. Gutierrez scored a goal and made an assist, and his club defeated West Ham 2-0. This victory allowed Newcastle to remain in the top tier of English football.
At the end of 2014, Gutierrez announced that he was returning to the sport after a course of chemotherapy — he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which he had been treating for about six months.
For the Newcastle club, the Argentine played since 2008 and in total had made 187 appearances on the field.
