Accidental red cards for "Real" footballers could lead to UEFA sanctions © EuroFootball.com

The UEFA disciplinary committee has launched an investigation to determine whether Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos and midfielder Xabi Alonso intentionally received red cards in the Champions League match against Ajax in Amsterdam.

Both Spaniards were sent off the field towards the end of the match for time-wasting, when the score was already 4-0 in favor of the Madrid team. As a result of the cards received, they will miss the match against Auxerre, which has no influence on the tournament standings.

Since the incidents seemed suspicious, many suspected that the players with cards were trying to avoid risking missing the crucial knockout matches, which are of incomparable importance.

According to an official statement from Real Madrid, such allegations are incorrect. However, according to UEFA rules, they could face additional sanctions for unsporting behavior and violating principles.
