Today "Barcelona" announced that they will take legal action and take Neymar to court for potentially breaching his contract with this team.
At the beginning of this month, Neymar decided to leave the Catalan team and moved to "Paris Saint-Germain" for a record-breaking €222 million buyout. Although the Brazilian has already played two matches with PSG, on Tuesday "Barca" issued a statement claiming that his transfer saga is not over yet, as his former team will take the player to court in an attempt to claim at least €8.5 million.
Barcelona appeals to the fact that Neymar recently signed a new contract with their team and will try to recover the contract extension bonus and an additional €8.5 million for losses incurred. The club also emphasized that if Neymar himself is unable to pay these sums, they should be claimed from his current team.
In this lawsuit, the club demands to collect the contractually provided bonus amount, €8.5 million for incurred losses, and additional 10% for debts from the player for breach of contract.
The club also demands that if the player himself cannot cover these amounts, "Paris Saint-Germain" should do it for him.
"Barcelona" is taking these actions to defend their interests after Neymar unilaterally terminated the contract with the team just a few months after he signed a new contract that was valid until 2021," - stated in a statement released by the "Barcelona" team.
Shortly after Neymar moved to PSG, "Barca" also announced that they do not intend to pay the player a €26 million loyalty bonus stipulated in the contract, accusing him of breaching the contract. Later it was revealed that Neymar's father, who is the player's agent, deliberately delayed the transfer to PSG in order to reach the date stipulated in the contract after which the bonus would be valid.
Neymar himself, just a couple of days ago, made negative comments about the "Barcelona" management, stating that "they are not the right people to work here" and emphasizing that, in his opinion, this team deserves better leadership.
