Footballers are not immune to injuries even in friendly matches - the Dutchman Klaas Jan Huntelaar and the Englishman Chris Smalling spent Wednesday evening in the hospital after a brutal clash of heads.
In the second half of the friendly match, the Dutch national team striker scored a great header, but in the same episode collided heads with the English defender Smalling.
Both players didn't get up from the pitch for some time, until finally Huntelaar walked towards the dressing room on his own, while Smalling had to be carried out on a stretcher.
"Huntelaar went to the hospital because we think his head is injured," said Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk. "He looked better in the dressing room than on the field, but we decided not to take any risks."
Similar statements were made by Stuart Pearce, the coach of the England national team: "Chris went to the hospital. I spoke with the player, he is conscious, but the incident was very unpleasant."
