The last minute of the Champions League semi-final match between Madrid's "Real" and Munich's "Bayern" will be discussed for a long time.
The match referee Szymon Marciniak blew the whistle for a potential offside too early after the ball was lifted into the "Real" penalty area. Soon the ball ended up in the net after Matthijs de Ligt's strike, however, the game was stopped and the result remained in favor of the hosts.
The whole "Bayern" team was upset about this episode.
Thomas Muller, practically tearing the referee apart after the match, said: "This is very strange. The referee didn't even look at VAR. This happened in Madrid. Something similar happened with Ronaldo's 'double' a few years ago. However, we shouldn't use this argument for our defeat.'
Meanwhile, "Bayern" defender Matthijs de Ligt revealed that the sideline referee apologized to him: "The sideline referee told me: 'I'm sorry, it's my mistake.' Shame on that. I think we all know the rules.
If the offside is not obvious, play should be allowed to continue. That's the rule! During Joselu's goal, he was practically offside, but everything continued, why not apply the same to us?" - pondered the Dutchman.
"Real" defeated the German team with a total score of 4:3 and advanced to the Champions League final.
