„Southampton“ head coach Ronald Koeman says he was shocked after his players enjoyed themselves in an 8-0 win against "Sunderland" in the "Premier League" match.
The home team took the lead in quite unusual circumstances: the opponents' defender Santiago Vergini scored the first goal into his own net with a powerful shot in the twelfth minute.
A few minutes later, the best player of September in the league, Graziano Pelle, doubled the advantage for the "Saints".
As the first half was coming to an end, a precise shot from Jack Cork gave the hosts a three-goal lead, and a powerful finish in the second half of the match completely surprised Koeman.
„I am very pleased," he said. "It is a bit of a shock because 8-0 is not a normal result."
„I was surprised by the numbers on the scoreboard already after twenty minutes: we were leading 2-0, even though we did not start well. Sunderland dominated, and we had problems."
„We were lucky because of the first goal. Maybe it gave us more confidence and the team woke up after it."

Koeman also sympathized with "Sunderland" manager Gus Poyet, for whom only apologies to his team's fans remained after such a result.
