The Spanish football league decided to temporarily suspend conservative referees. After the anger of the "Barcelona" club due to very serious mistakes by the referees during the match, which cost the Catalans two very important points, Spanish football leaders sat down to discuss the situation.
The result - Spain has chosen a new path, which clubs in England, Italy, Germany, or France have already taken before.
The president of the Spanish Football Federation, Javier Tebas, announced that starting from 2018, the country's football matches will use "video referees".
After the weekend match between "Barcelona" and "Real Betis" (1:1), there was a huge dissatisfaction in Spain.
At that moment, the referee did not count a clear goal because he thought the ball did not cross the goal line. At the same time, he missed the opportunity to properly assess the foul in the penalty area against Neymar.
The "Barcelona" club immediately demanded the use of goal-line technology, which is already in use in England, Italy, Germany, or France.
J.Tebas stated that the video refereeing system will be implemented in Spain as soon as FIFA approves it.
"We have always defended technology in football. In this specific case, we believe that 'video referees' would be the most advanced form. The tests have already begun. I am sure that at the beginning of July 2018, if FIFA approves it, we will start using this technology," said J.Tebas.
Now in Spain, it is asked why goal-line technology was not chosen?
J.Tebas explained that goal-line technology, such as 'Hawkeye,' is simply too expensive, and realistically it can only be used a few times in a year.
"This year there were three similar cases, but no one talked much about it. Perhaps people talked so much this time because the ball went deeper," he pondered.
Due to the equal four-point advantage of "Barcelona" in the Spanish championship, the leader remains the "Real" team from Madrid.
