In Group D of the Africa Cup of Nations, Mauritania defeated the Algerian national team with a score of 1:0, ending their journey already in the group stage. Mauritania had never won a victory in this tournament before these matches.

The only goal for the winners was scored by Mohamed Dellah Yaly in the 37th minute.

In other matches of this group, Angola beat Burkina Faso with a score of 2:0.
