Ali withdraws from the fight: "I don't want to harm those who dared to vote for me even more"

On Friday, Sepp Blatter from Switzerland was elected as the FIFA president for the fifth term. His opponent, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan, withdrew from the race after the first round. In the first round of voting, Sepp Blatter received 133 votes, while Ali bin al-Hussein got 73. Three ballots were damaged. Since neither candidate received two-thirds of the votes, a second round of voting was expected, but before it began, Prince Ali thanked for the support and withdrew from the elections. Immediately after his speech, he left the building and made a brief comment to the media. "73 national organizations were very brave to vote for me, and I did it for them. However, I do not want to cause them any more problems. I hope that people will understand that football is for the world... and not just what is happening now. I hope for the best and that our ranks will continue to grow, so that there will be real changes in the organization", said Ali bin al-Hussein. Meanwhile, S. Blatter celebrated his victory and stated that nobody is perfect, promising changes.
