"Amsterdam ArenA" could be renamed after J. Cruyff

Deputy Mayor of Amsterdam Eric van der Burg confirmed that the "Amsterdam ArenA" stadium could be renamed in honor of Johan Cruyff.

The "Ajax" legend passed away yesterday after losing the battle with lung cancer. Immediately after, social media platform Twitter was flooded with proposals to give Cruyff's name to the club's fortress.

However, "Ajax" cannot make this decision themselves, as the stadium does not belong to them, but actions are expected from the municipality, which controls a part of it.

"I discussed this with Mayor Eberhard van der Laan and we concluded that we should try to implement this," Van der Burg told RTL.

"I think we have the support of 837,000 residents of Amsterdam."

"Furthermore, we have several strong arguments that can help convince other shareholders."
