An example of honorable play: "Qarabag" coach ordered the player to admit to a hand-scored goal © JumpStory

On Thursday, „Qarabag“ club ended their performance in the UEFA Conference League by suffering another defeat against the „Marseille“ team. These matches also featured a very honorable moment. In the 34th minute, „Qarabag“ player Ibrahima Wadji scored the equalizer, although the Senegalese did it with his hand. Nevertheless, the match referee did not notice this at first and initially awarded the goal, causing a huge dissatisfaction among the „Marseille“ players. After a few minutes of discussion, „Qarabag“ coach Gurban Gurbanov took the initiative and instructed I. Wadji to tell the truth to the referee. The player admitted that he scored the goal with his hand and the match referee ultimately did not count it. Interestingly, the VAR system was not used in these matches.

Massive credit to Qarabag’s coach and captain, who told the ref in their game against Marseille that this ‘goal’ shouldn’t stand…No VAR, but Qarabag refused the handball goal. Fair play. pic.twitter.com/e2BYsz0Nqo — Joe Crann (@YesWeCrann) February 24, 2022
