Swedish national team forward Henrik Larsson, who has suffered a long-term cruciate ligament injury and is considering the end of his career, was offered a contract extension.
Larsson suffered an injury during Saturday's match against Real Madrid and after tests on Monday, the 33-year-old forward stated that he was contemplating the end of his career.
Upon learning the seriousness of the injury, Barcelona president Joan Laporta offered the player a contract extension until June 2006.
"I feel very flattered," Larsson said. "This support means a lot to me."
Speaking to TV3, Barcelona's president said that the Swedish player's long-term injury had changed the club's transfer strategy during the winter transfer window. It is said that previously the Catalan club intended to strengthen only defenders, but now their gaze has shifted to forwards.
One of the possible signings mentioned is "the young Bulgarian Rooney" Valeri Bojinov. If Barcelona decides to compete for this young talent, they would have to compete with clubs from London, Dortmund, and London.
