On Thursday, the number of candidates capable of winning the award for the best African player of the year has been reduced from five to three. This prize will no longer be contested by forwards Asamoah Gyan and Ahmed Musa.
The trio consists of Ivory Coast national team defender Yaya Toure, Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Nigerian national team goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.
Manchester City footballer Toure has won this award for the past three years and is aiming to become the first player to be named the best African footballer four times in a row. The only other player to achieve this three times in a row is Ghanaian national team representative Abedi Pele.
The player from Ivory Coast scored 20 goals in 35 Premier League matches in the 2013-14 season and won the championship title with his team.
Meanwhile, Aubameyang had an excellent debut season with Borussia Dortmund last year. The forward scored 13 times and helped Jurgen Klopp's team finish in second place in the Bundesliga.
Vincent Enyeama wore the captain's armband for the Nigerian national team at the World Cup in Brazil. Additionally, the team represented by the goalkeeper, Lille, finished third in the Ligue 1 championship last season.
The winner will be announced on January 8 in the largest city in Nigeria, Lagos.
