Announce three contenders for the FIFA 2017 Best Player award

Today FIFA announced three contenders to win the title of FIFA Best Player of 2017.

Among the three contenders, there are no big surprises: Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Neymar are vying to be named the best footballer.

Last season, Cristiano Ronaldo with "Real" won both the Champions League and "La Liga" titles. The Portuguese himself became the top scorer in the Champions League with 12 goals.

Last season Lionel Messi with "Barcelona" only won the Spanish Cup, but with 37 goals in the "La Liga" championship, he won the "Golden Boot" award, which is awarded to the top scorer in European local leagues. In the Champions League, the forward scored 11 times.

This summer Neymar became the most expensive footballer of all time, and was acquired by the "Paris Saint-Germain" team for 222 million euros. In the 2016-2017 season, the Brazilian scored a total of 20 goals and made 27 assists.

In 2010, the FIFA Best Player of the Year and "Ballon d'Or" votes were combined into one "FIFA Ballon d'Or" trophy, but last year "L'Equipe" regained the right to announce the "Ballon d'Or" winner alone, while FIFA reinstated its Best Player awards.

In 2016, Cristiano Ronaldo was named the FIFA Best Player of the Year, surpassing Lionel Messi who came in second, and Antoine Griezmann who came in third.
