“TOPsport A lygos” champion, “Panevėžio” football club, became a stepping stone to a higher level for Matijus Remeikis. The goalkeeper, who had been improving in Panevėžys for several years, was bought by a Bulgarian team.
His contract with alytus was valid until the end of this season, but the Plovdiv “Botev” team paid the buyout and invited M. Remeikis to join their ranks. However, until the summer, the Lithuanian will represent “Panevėžys” on a loan basis.
In the local competitions of this season, the Bulgarian team has earned 32 points in 22 matches and ranks seventh. “Botev” club is represented by the native of Panevėžys, Faustas Steponavičius.
M. Remeikis made his debut with “Panevėžys” jersey in the Lithuanian championship on September 11, 2021, in a duel with local team “Nevėžis” in Kėdainiai. Until the 2024 season, the goalkeeper played 62 matches in the “TOPsport A league”, scoring a goal and making an assist.
With the team from the capital of Aukštaitija, M. Remeikis celebrated the victory in the “TOPsport LFF Supercup” twice, as well as lifting the LFF Cup and Lithuanian Championship trophies once. Thanks to his success in Panevėžys, the goalkeeper made his debut in the national team last year and was recognized as the best young Lithuanian footballer of 2023.
