Defender Per Mertesacker, playing for London's "Arsenal" club, has decided to focus all his attention on the club and announced his retirement from the German national team.
The 29-year-old footballer triumphed with the national team in the 2014 World Cup this summer, but he will no longer wear the colors of the German team.
"The main thing I always wanted was to retire from the national team after spending at least 10 years there," said the defender. "There is nothing to fear about the future of the national team, as a new generation will come."
"Now I want to win the English Premier League with 'Arsenal' and try to perform as best as possible in the UEFA Champions League," concluded the German giant.
P. Mertesacker made his debut for the German national team in 2004.
