During the night from Saturday to Sunday, a battle for the third place in the World Cup took place at the "Mane Garrincha" stadium. Brazil's footballers seeking redemption in front of their fans met Argentina, who had lost in the semi-finals to the Dutch team.
From the very beginning of the match, the Dutch national team seemed superior, and this was proven as early as the 3rd minute of the game. After Robin van Persie won the fight against the opponents' defenders, the ball was received by the fast Arjen Robben, who was brought down in the penalty area by Thiago Silva, and the referee awarded a penalty kick. R. van Persie successfully converted it.
The second goal of the match came in the 16th minute and reminded the Brazilian fans in the stadium of the humiliation against Germany. Georginio Wijnaldum received the ball on the edge and passed it to the penalty area, where David Luiz was the first to touch the ball, but he played unsuccessfully - the ball fell straight to Daley Blind, who once again beat Julio Cesar.
After the second goal, the Dutch team calmed down, and Luis Felipe Scolari's players attacked more, but the "Oranje" footballers successfully neutralized the disturbances near Jasper Cillessen's goal and maintained their advantage.
In the second half, the situation did not change: Brazil controlled the ball more and tried to overcome the opponents' defense with positional attacks, while the Dutch team counterattacked when they had the ball.
Scolari's players managed to create several dangerous episodes, but both the defenders of the Dutch team and the goalkeeper J. Cillessen successfully played the game.
Louis van Gaal's team managed to increase their lead at the end of the match. After a combination of A. Robben, D. Janmaat, and G. Wijnaldum, the ball once again found its way into the Brazilian goal.
For the hosts of the World Cup, this was already the second painful blow - in the semi-finals, Brazil was crushed by Germany with a score of 1-7.
