The Dutchman achieved this record in the first match of the 2014 World Cup, when his team defeated Spain 5-1. Robben not only outpaced Sergio Ramos in a duel for the ball, but also reached a speed of 37 kilometers per hour.
Prior to Robben, the title of the fastest football player in the world belonged to London Arsenal player Theo Walcott, who reached a speed of 35 km/h while running.
In a slightly lower position in terms of speed are Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia (35.2 km/h), Gareth Bale (34.7 km/h), Aaron Lennon (33.8 km/h), and also Cristiano Ronaldo (33.6 km/h).
Comparatively, Robben is not far behind the fastest human in the world, Usain Bolt, who has reached speeds of 44.72 km/h in the 100 and 200 meters.
