On Sunday, at "Wembley" Stadium, in the final of the English League Cup ("Carling Cup"), the "Birmingham" club defeated London's "Arsenal" team with a score of 1-2, which missed the opportunity to break a more than 5-year title drought.

The victory for the "Blues" was brought by Obafemi Martins' goal in the 89th minute of the match, when in the penalty area the "Gunners" goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and defender Laurent Koscielny failed to communicate.

The Birmingham team took the lead after Nikola Zigic's header in the middle of the first half, but Robin van Persie restored balance in the 39th minute with a technical shot.

Arsene Wenger's protégés had the initiative in the second half of the game, but all their attempts to turn the result around were repelled by the reliable goalkeeper Ben Foster.

The "Birmingham" club won the English League Cup for the second time in history. The first time the "Blues" triumphed was in 1963.
