The 28-year-old Englishman's contract with the Gunners will expire after this season, but team manager Unai Emery says the club is seriously considering offering D. Welbeck a new contract, despite the fact that he is unlikely to play again this season.
"Welbeck is recovering quickly. He is working intensively and has already started training with the ball. His progress after such a serious injury is truly encouraging.
"I don't think we will see Welbeck playing this season, but he is recovering rapidly, so we hope that doctors will allow him to join training in the last weeks of the season.
He will also have to talk to the club officials about his future. All Premier League teams need players from England," Emery said.
Before his injury, Welbeck managed to play 14 matches this season, scoring 5 goals.
