London's "Arsenal" offered 27 million euros for Lisbon's "Sporting" defender William Carvalho.
The "Gunners" have already made a second offer for the defensive style player and hope to lure him in the final days of the transfer window.
"Arsenal" is waiting for the response from the Portuguese club, who recently stated they are willing to reduce the player's price. Previously, he was valued at 35 million euros.
The London club has been trying to acquire Carvalho for over a week now, and is now looking to resolve the issues that have arisen due to the fact that part of the player's rights belong to a third party.
The previous 25 million euro offer from "Arsenal" for the Portuguese was rejected.
"Sporting" is ready to sell the defender, however, according to reports in Portugal, 40 percent of the player's rights belong to the investment firm "Banco Espirito Santo". Carvalho is also represented by "super agent" Jorge Mendes, who has been dealing with difficulties in negotiations between all three parties.
Arsene Wenger hopes to develop Carvalho in his team to strengthen the defensive midfielder and central defender positions. Although he currently plays mostly in midfield, the Portuguese started his career in defense.
"Arsenal" is also looking for a regular center back to replace Thomas Vermaelen and provide cover for first-choice players Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
