London's Arsenal acquired promising defender William Saliba from Saint-Etienne last summer, but agreed to loan him back to the same French team for the season. The coronavirus pandemic resulted in many championships being extended longer than usual, and the French Cup final, in which Saint-Etienne also qualified for, will only be played on July 24. However, for this trophy Saint-Etienne will have to compete without W. Saliba, as both parties did not reach an agreement to extend the loan term. Arsenal released a statement saying that the club was interested in letting the 19-year-old play in the French Cup final, but Saint-Etienne did not agree with the training plan prepared by the London club's medical staff. The Gunners paid approximately £26.5 million for the promising Frenchman.
